About the Event
Meet Sylvie at 10 am at the Rookwood General Cemetery office on Hawthorne Avenue Rookwood to collect your catalogue/guide/map.
This is an inspiring photo opportunity outing at Rookwood Cemetery, combining history, arts, interesting subjects, including an open air exhibition of art works in the cemetery grounds.
Cemeteries offer unique opportunities to take interesting and unique photographs.
Rookwood Cemetery is the oldest, largest and most multicultural working cemetery in Australia. Its grounds tell the story of Sydney's history and cultural diversity, while its peaceful setting and artistic monuments make Rookwood a fascinating place to visit all year round.
There is a kiosk on the other side of the cemetery where we can get coffee and snacks. After lunch, members willing, Sylvie will conduct a tour of the old Anglican section where a lot of famous people are buried. Discover why Rookwood is called the gardenesque burial ground. Meet Horden, David Jones, Bing Lee, see the gypsies graves, Fairfax, Bee Miles, the Chinese monument and many others... too many to list all....
Parking is available opposite the office, opposite All Souls and along Hawthorne Avenue. HIDDEN is a sculptural WALK ONLY. For the safety of all of our visitors, please do not drive around the exhibition
