PERSONAL GALLERIES

Women war photographers

The exhibition presents more than 80 photographs and confronts the visitor with a collective view on the violence of war. It explores the notion of gender, specifically the female gaze on war, and undermines established stereotypes in showing that women are just as capable of photographing and witnessing atrocities as men. At the same time they can produce especially moving portraits and often express more sensitivity created by their framing techniques. Two of these women photographers sadly died in whilst covering far away war zones
